This week’s newsletter is sponsored by the Digital PR agency Search Intelligence and North Star Inbound. See their case studies linked in the newsletter. If you have SEO strategy issues where I can be helpful in a short call, I am now available to book on the Intro platform.
You mentioned, “It’s not just the helpful content update. Generative AI, whether it's from Google or ChatGPT, is also a significant risk. If a site produces listicles about the top tools to do X or the best places to go for Y, these are the precise kinds of things that generative AI can generate without the need for lengthy pieces of content.”

Makes sense. But also, if companies/writers make their roundups more personal and talk about their experience using the “x best tools” vs just a generic list, isn’t that more useful/helpful for the reader? Just curious what you think!
To me there is is an important distinction to be made between creating content to fill a user's need, which can easily be done while writing for SEO, and creating content for the user.
Content created for a user does more than just fill a need. Authenticity, real life experience, practical application, empathy, storey telling. These are things that create connection and true engagement.
Then again it depends on the topic, as you said, does the emotion matter?
So…. Keep creating content that meets user needs?
